ONE DIRECTION: THIS IS US

SONY PICTURES INTERACTIVE
TRIGGER
ADDISON

Lead interactive producer for the One Direction: This Is Us 3D concert movie which premiered in theaters in the US and UK August 2013.

movie website

Worked directly with the vendor Trigger to design, develop, QA, and maintain updates for the main movie site and all included features. The site was geofiltered for the US and UK and would display different messaging based on the origin of the IP address. After the theatrical window, I worked with an in-house team to update the site for digital and Blu-ray™ release.

movie party tumblr

One of my favorite tumblrs that I have gotten to work on was for the digital and Blu-ray™ release of One Direction: This Is Us. The movie was released to digital, DVD and Blu-ray™ on December 17, 2013 and the tumblr site was launched a little over a week before that.

The tumblr encourages fans to buy the movie and throw a 1D Movie Party night for their friends and family. Posts contained various activities and games that fans could play while watching the movie, along with tons of printables including everything from invitations and nametags to popcorn bags and hats.

All posts and printables contained the hastag #1DMovieParty and fans were encourage to participate in a global viewing party on December 20th by posting photos of themseleves celebrating.

movie mosaic

We were tasked with creating a site that would allow fans from around the world to submit his/her photo to become part of a giant mosaic for the One Direction: This Is Us poster. A portion of the fans photos that were collected through the site ended up being used on the packaging and physical posters for the movie’s theatrical and homevideo releases.

I helped launch the initial site live and updated it to allow for submissions from 16 countries in 12 different languages. Because the laws vary from country to country, and we were collecting photos from minors, keeping an up-to-date copy deck with all translations and legal information for each country was extremely important.

After the submission period ended, I managed a flash developer over 2-3 weeks to create the final mosaic. The final site displayed the actual mosaic made up of thousands of fan photos and allowed users to search for their specific photo by using fields that were filled out at time of submission such as name, favorite band member or country of origin. Once a fan found his or her photo in the mosaic they could then share the exact location of that photo within the mosaic with their friends on Facebook or Twitter.

meme creator

Worked directly with the vendor Addison to launch a meme generator site that allowed fans to write, create, and save their own One Direction: This Is Us memes. They could then save them on Facebook, Twitter, tumblr, or Pinterest.

I worked with the vendor Trigger to create a One Direction challenge site. During the theatrical window a new set of ten questions would be released each week which would test fans knowledge about the band in general. At the end of a weekly question set would be a fan challenge that would encourage a user to do something like tweet their favorite band member’s name. The challenges helped make the site social and get more fans involved. After completing the challenge users would be able to download “badges” that showcased their accomplishments and then post them to facebook.
